East Coast Music Fans Rejoice For New Smaller Sphere Venue
If you were hoping that the East coast location of the long-awaited 'Sphere' was going to be built in Boston, Connecticut, or NYC, I have some bad news for you: It's not, but, it's really not going to be too far away.
When it opened two years ago in Las Vegas in 2023, Sphere captured the imagination of concert fans everywhere. It's a 17,000-20,000 capacity 360 video screen, and a few of my friends that have been say that it lives up to the hype. Just last year a second Sphere was announced and it's under construction right now in Aby Dhabi. For those of you waiting for this type of venue closer to home, the wait is semi-over, we're getting a mini-version in the next few years on the East coast/

According to hollywoodreporter.com, a smaller-scale 6,000 seat version of the 17,000 seat Sphere will be built outside of Washington D.C. in the National Harbor area of Maryland. No timeline for the DC-area Sphere has been announced as of yet, but even a smaller version of this type of venue could take a couple of years?
The 17,000-20,000 seat Sphere - Las Vegas has hosted Dead & Co., U2, No Doubt, The Eagles, Coldplay, Phish, Kenny Chesney, and the Backstreet Boys over the past three years. A 6,000-seat venue? In Washington DC? I'm surprised at how a venue a third of the size of it's role model was a good idea? I'm guessing that a massive venue in that area would put a couple of the smaller places out.
