Sled Hockey will take your breathe away. With the passing of paralyzed NYPD Detective Steven McDonald recently, this Saturday nights event at the Danbury Titans game is even more poignant.

i95 listeners are a passionate group. Passionate about their music, and passionate about causes too. When we ask for help with a charity event, the listeners always come though in a big way.

Often listeners share with me fundraisers that they are involved with that are dear to their heart. Listener Ron Rogell, clued me into a group he's a part of, the Northeast Sled Hockey Leaque, which in turn is part of the organization known as New York Rangers Sled Hockey.

The teams and the organization strive to enhance the lives of children and adults with disabilities, through teamwork and sportsmanship. I think the mission statement from neshl.org says it best:

Our goal is to provide an environment where individuals, with and without disabilities, can develop as athletes, leaders, and community members through a competitive Sled Hockey league that emphasizes commitment, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship

The New York Rangers Sled Hockey team will be playing between periods at the Danbury Titans home game Saturday Jan. 14. They are selling tickets as a fundraiser -$14.50 for adults, and $9.00 for kids. You can buy tickets day-of- at the ticket windows, but you must mention New York Rangers Sled Hockey to get those prices.

I'd like to end this with a trubute to a man who meant the world to so many, including the New York Rangers, NYPD Detective Steven McDonald, who was paralyzed by a bullet in the line of duty 30 years ago. You can read about the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award on the New York Rangers website. In a story from the Daily News McDonald passed away at the age of 59 on Jan. 10.
