Shopping Cart Joy Rides and Fights Break Out at Waterbury Walmart
When someone threatened to "go get a gun," all hell broke loose.
According to a news article on the WFSB website, police were summoned to the Walmart on Wolcott Street in Waterbury after a large fight had broken out this past Wednesday.
Police identified two suspects causing a spectacle by riding electric shopping carts around the parking lot. They were identified as 18-year-old Joshua Cruz and 20-year-old Jose Morales, both of Waterbury.
For whatever reason, the fight was between Walmart customers and the security staff members, and someone reportedly threatened to "go get a gun". Walmart security attempted to get the suspects to stop joyriding the motorized shopping carts, and that's when the fight broke out.
Investigators also learned that the suspects had been joyriding inside the store and had managed to remove two BB guns from boxes and stashed them in their pants. Morales and Cruz allegedly jumped into a Honda with Massachusetts plates and zoomed around the Walmart parking lot before speeding off.
Police later found the suspects on Willow Street in Waterbury. Cruz was charged with second-degree robbery along with seven other charges. His bond was set at $100,000. Lesser charges were filed against Morales, and his bond was set at $60,000.
