This Connecticut Park Has One of America’s Scariest Names
Today is National Face Your Fears Day. In honor of this massive (non) event, the website National Today decided to celebrate the best way they know how — by putting together a list of the Spookiest Place Names in Every State.

Turns out, Connecticut’s creepiest claim to fame is Satan’s Kingdom State Park in New Hartford. Now, if you’ve ever been tubing or kayaking there, you probably know it’s not exactly the ninth circle of hell. It’s more like a family-friendly stretch of river where you occasionally see someone drop their cooler and swear at it for 20 minutes. Aside from the name there isn't much I could find about the place that makes it all that terrifying.
Wait..one moment please.
Ah, I get it now — Satan’s Kingdom is a park that bans alcohol. Nothing says “demonic” like state-funded, sober sorcery. Wicked indeed.
More on Satan's Kingdom State Park:
- Located at 92 Main Street in New Hartford, this stretch of the Farmington River is actually a popular spot for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing.
- There’s a vendor on-site during the summer months for tubing rentals, so you can float right through the “Kingdom” without having to bring your own gear.
- There’s no parking fee. Just keep in mind that rental fees for tubes and equipment are separate.

According to National Today, the idea for the list wasn’t to find haunted or cursed locations, just places that sound like they should be. Some of the other highlights across America include Deadman Lake in Alaska, Slaughter Beach in Delaware, and Bloody Gulch Road in Illinois. Ooh I'm so scared.
And what about our neighboring states? New York has a place called Execution Rock while New Jersey is home to Ghost Lake.
Happy Face Your Fears Day, Connecticut. Not today, Satan.
