Radio Legend Mr. Morning Celebrated with Special Honor by Danbury

On Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, I got a text from my Townsquare Media colleague and good friend, Joey Ech. He asked if I’d seen the Facebook post about Bill. If you’ve been around the Greater Danbury area for even a few minutes over the last 30 years, you know Bill Trotta—better known as "Mr. Morning." Everyone does.

Joey told me that the City of Danbury had honored Bill for his years of service to the community, recognizing his lifetime of entertainment on the radio. Bill spent nearly 20 years as the morning guy at 98Q, followed by almost 15 years at Y105/Kicks 105.5.

Joey sent me the link to the post with the pictures and the following message:

For those of you who loved Bill's work on the radio, you only saw the tip of the iceberg. I had the privilege of working with him daily, and let me tell you, getting to know this guy was a blessing. There are few people as funny, personable, and engaging as Mr. Morning.

When they made Bill, they broke the mold, burned it, and scattered the ashes in the Atlantic. You don’t even realize!

Congrats, Bill. We love you and miss you around the office.

P.S. Let’s address the elephant hair in the room. Holy machismo, bro—you’ve elevated the game to levels we never imagined. That hair is running the meeting and sending a clear message: "Look at me, I’m the Captain now."

Bill's hair was always a thing of beauty—glorious locks that became a running joke built on pure envy. It moved just enough to show you it was real, but never enough to get messy. There was a sheen to it that’s impossible to describe, but it was unmistakable. The man’s hair glowed when you were in the room with it. And trust me, this wasn't by accident. Just like his radio career, Bill put work into that hair, all while making it seem effortless.

Now, here’s a fun fact: In nearly 15 years of working with Bill, he was never on time to a single “all-hands” staff meeting. And it wasn’t like he was traveling from home to attend these meetings—he was already in the building! We all suspected he was running some last-minute maintenance on his bitchin’ lion's mane, but there’s no concrete evidence to back that up.

We just talked about Bill a few weeks ago on the I-95 Morning Show when someone was acting a fool in Newtown (allegedly).

Bill was predictably reliable—like a rock. He loves his wife, Mary, and his kids, we know that because he talked about them all the time. Bill donated thousands of hours to the community, coaching baseball, and he somehow managed to make someone smile every day at work. And let’s not forget, he never had to change for baseball practice after work—he was already rocking the best track suit money could buy.

Check this out, Bill had us rolling when he walked around one of our beer events telling people they were cut off because they were drinking too much. Dude has nuts like a rhino!

P.S. #2 – Bill’s wife, Mary, is an absolute saint—one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. Here’s a quick story to illustrate just how amazing she is: A few weeks before Christmas one year, my wife Erica and I pulled our pre-lit Christmas tree out of the attic to set it up for the season, only to find that all the lights were dead. It was time to toss it. Neither of us was keen on buying a real tree (too messy) or spending $150 on a new fake one. So, Erica posted on Facebook, hoping to find someone in Danbury who was getting rid of an old fake tree for cheap.

Erica hit send on the post, and I jumped in the shower. About 20 minutes later, I came out of the shower, heard some noise in the living room, and walked out to see what was going on. To my surprise, there were Mary and Bill, standing there with their old tree. It was that fast, and it was 100% Mary's idea. Truly wonderful people.
