Quassy’s New Ride Sounds Familiar to the 80’s Kids of Waterbury
Hey Greater Waterbury, it's 2025, but if you grew up in the glorious 1980's and someone said to you that 'Crazy 8' is opening up in a few weeks, would you go buy $20 in quarters?
You still should, and convert those quarters into all-day ride or season passes at Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury. Quassy is where the 2025 version of Crazy 8 is coming back to the area, not the Colonial Plaza, unfortunately. Quassy recently announced the winner of it's Name the Ride Contest, and it's Crazy 8.

Every time I've heard 'Crazy 8' in my lifetime, I've thought of the Crazy Eight arcade and billiard hall that was next to the movie theaters in Waterbury's Colonial Plaza. Here's a video from TheMochproductions that I found on YouTube capturing this incredible place in all it's cigarette-stained glory.
Video arcades were wonderful during the late 1970's into the mid 1980's, and Crazy Eight was a dank gem. So many characters used to hang around shooting pool, while the kids lined up their quarters on the stand-up's for next game. The cigarette and cigar smoke was absolutely incredible at night. Anyway, that's the Crazy Eight that I will always remember first.
Anyway, back to 2025, Quassy's new Crazy 8 is described as 'A brand-new spinning family coaster. It will feature a figure eight track design, hence the winning name, with spinning carts that will make you feel like you're lost within a game of Tempest.. Uh, sorry, that was my imagination. I have to champion Quassy, they've maintained their arcade every year, right through every decade through today.
