Popular Chain Named Best Mexican Restaurant in Connecticut
It's so hard when restaurants are named the best because there are so many opinions from people of what is considered the best. I would also like to point out that I think greater Danbury has a great variety of food from all different ethnicities and it deserves so much more attention.
There are honestly a bunch of great Mexican food places all across our state. I have been to quite a few different restaurants, but I know that some stand out more than others. If I had to pick a favorite, mine would be Bodega in Fairfield. I love the vibe and I love the food.

Love Food published a list of the best Mexican restaurants in each state and Connecticut's is a fan-favorite. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the results do not surprise me. Bartaco was named the favorite for Connecticut. Their blurb about the restaurant was as follows:
Chic restaurant chain Bartaco has earned a reputation for its authentic tacos and fresh, zesty dishes – so much so that there are now 33 restaurants in 14 states, three of which are in Connecticut. The West Hartford spot is especially popular. People love the fun, beachy vibe, but, mostly, it’s the food that keeps them coming back, from flavorful cauliflower and mushroom tacos to crave-worthy street corn.
I agree with the blurb. Bartaco has definitely earned their reputation. Since it's technically a chain, does it count in this study? I'll count it since it doesn't feel like a chain at all. If you've never been to Bartaco, you're definitely missing out. There are 3 Connecticut locations - all which are very popular. They have a Stamford location, West Hartford location and a Westport location.
Bartaco actually started in Port Chester, New York in 2010 and then expanded from there. Stamford was the first Connecticut location which arrived in September of 2011. Since then, they expanded to 2 more locations - West Hartford in 2012 and Westport in 2013.
When talking amongst people about where they want to grab Mexican food, Bartaco is always on that list. It doesn't surprise me that it's made its name here, but if you had to choose a restaurant, what would you choose?
