Not So Lucky Ledyard Man Falls Down Well While Using Leaf Blower
It's leaf blower season and I heard the unmistakable sound first thing this morning as it echoed throughout the Hudson Valley area we live in. It's like a wall of noise that I would describe as a constant, impenetrable, evil, Godzilla-type, wicked, white noise that only Satan himself would find soothing. Not only are they loud AF, but they are also potentially dangerous.
According to a Facebook post by the Ledyard Fire Company, an accident occurred last night involving a man who was using a gas-powered leafblower.
From the Ledyard Fire Company Facebook:
At 1855 this evening[last night], the Ledyard Fire Company, Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Company and American Ambulance Service, Inc. were dispatched to Arrowhead Drive for a male that fell down into a well. Ledyard Police Department arrived on scene and reported the patient was alert but down a 30’ x 3’ well. Submarine Base Firefighters Local F-219 was requested for their confined space rescue team. .... Thank you to the Mashantucket Pequot Firefighters - IAFF Local 4746 Laurel Hill Volunteer Fire Co. #6 and the Town of Ledyard Professional Firefighters Local 3167 who came in and provided coverage to the town while the volunteers were tied up at this incident.
The man was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but it could have been way worse. I wouldn't say the leaf blower was solely responsible for the accident but it could definitely have played a part. No luck at all to fall into the well, but he is lucky to be alive considering what could have taken place.
The big problem that people really have with them is the previously mentioned vile noise they produce. I have seen teams of dudes that look like they have jet packs on their backs slowly walking through yards ushering out the fall foliage from the people's yards, you know, as nature intended. Look, I don't care what you do with your yard, but the excessive leaf blowers can be an issue. An article by Yale News, brought to light the grievances New Haven residents have with these leaf-moving, noise-producing machines. That is not the only city/town/community that is up in arms over the noise pollution gas-powered leaf blowers make. The noise, cannot be denied, it is annoying, and not many things annoy me to the point that I am driven to write an article about it. That is how damn annoying it is.
