Every year, Niche helps millions of students and families find the right school for them. Schools are rated based on academics, diversity, the best places to teach, the best teachers, and the safest districts in every state across the country.

Niche uses the most up-to-date data available from dozens of public data sources including the Department of Education, U.S. Census, and FBI. I decided to tally the ratings for the six school districts in the Greater Danbury area which include Danbury, Brookfield, New Milford, New Fairfield, Newtown, and Ridgefield.

From 1984 to 2007 all three of my children attended New Fairfield schools from kindergarten through high school. Overall, we found the schools to be accommodating with open-minded teachers and administrators. We also discovered that New Fairfield schools were challenged when it came to kids who learned differently than the mainstream which I partially attribute to class sizes.

The Connecticut school district with the best national ranking was New Canaan which ranked #26 out of 10,772 schools.  The best high school in Connecticut, Staples High, ranked nationally at #102 out of 19,984 high schools.
