Charlie Sheen announced this morning that he is HIV Positive.  He says he has been for about four years. Here's my big take away from the interview.

What struck me about the interview was the brutal honesty.  The fact is most people are not going to go on live TV, look into a camera and admit the things he did.  He admitted to being HIV Positive, admitted to serious drug use, admitted  to hiring and sleeping with hookers.  That's a lot for one person to say to their friends and family never mind a live national TV audience but that's what he did.  That takes some stones.

I do realize that none of it comes as a surprise to any of us.  His problems and extra curricular activities have been well documented but that's a lot to have to say to Jack and Jill America.  Then after he says it there is this outpouring of support.  Wild stuff man.  It's amazing what Americans are willing to accept and tolerate if you just look them in the eyes and tell them the truth.  The people who end up being enemies in the eyes of the American public are the ones that lie to protect their name.

He has to be somewhat relieved.  After admitting he is HIV Positive he really does not have to deal with these people who knew about it trying to shake him down for money anymore.

Now that the cat is out of the bag he has another phase of his life he seems like he will be entering into.  Curing HIV.  That's what he said in the interview.  I mean I like Charlie and all but that seems like a tall order for an actor.

Either way...good for you Chuck for laying it on the line this morning.
