Two men were discovered dead in an overturned car in a partially-frozen pond in Dover on Friday morning.

New York State Police from the Dover Plains barracks were dispatched to Weil Road for a report of a vehicle that had overturned in a pond.



Troopers arrived on the scene to discover a car five feet off the road and upside-down in the water with two dead men inside. The New York State Police SCUBA Unit assisted in retrieving the bodies and the car from the pond.

The names of the dead men are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The accident is being investigated by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit.

Police said they do not know if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to the accident.

Also responding to the scene of the crash were members of the J.H. Ketcham Hose Fire Company, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Town of Dover Highway Department and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner.
