McCarthy Observatory in New Milford Offers an Up-Close Look at Our Solar System
In November of 2009, the McCarthy Observatory Scale Solar System was installed at 12 locations throughout New Milford.
This certainly isn't breaking news, but it's such a unique concept, it's worth reminding everyone that it's available to anyone who would like to learn more about our solar system. Because it was built to scale and each of the planets are located in a specific area in New Milford, the entire community, young and old, from students to parents, are able to walk through the entire solar system.
For example, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, Earth, and Mars are all located at New Milford High School. You'll find Jupiter at Hill and Plain School at 60 Old Town Park Road. Saturn is in Harrybrooke Park on 64 Lanesville Road. To find out where all the planets are located throughout New Milford, just click on this link.
