The Award for Best Sweet Corn in Litchfield County ’25 Goes To –
August and September is when the best crops of fresh, locally grown sweet corn hits the farm stands, country fairs, and grocery stores around Litchfield County. I'm on a mission this month to buy and try as much as I can, here's what I have to say about what I've tried so far.

During the past two weeks I've bought bags of 6 to 12 ears of sweet corn from 6 local farms in Litchfield County - Logue Farm in Woodbury, Tara Farm - Watertown, Towne's Farm in Morris, Freund's Farm in East Canaan, Ford's Farm in Norfolk, and Ruwet Farm in Torrington. Once again this year, same as last year, my favorite corn is Logue Farm in Woodbury. Each ear from Logue Farm was fully developed, no rot, and I'd estimate 10-20% larger than any of their competitors.
The earthiest corn out of the six was from Towne's Farm in Morris. Towne's Farm corn was very sweet, the silk came off easy, and there was a distinct aftertaste that stayed with me for a good half an hour after I ate it. Freund's Farm corn was ok, two of the six ears we bought were a tad under-developed. Ford's Farm in Norfolk was my wife's #2 pick (After Logue) but I didn't like it as much as the others. Ruwet Farm corn was a surprise, it was my first time after a neighbor suggested it to us, and I'd put that as my #2. Unfortunately Tara Farm's corn was our least favorite, we both found it semi-tasteless, and we had to cut a lot of rot away from two of the six ears.
