Seinfeld Almost Passed Her By, Now Kathy Griffin Lights Up Connecticut with New Tour
Two-time Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin is a towering figure on television, on tour and in publishing.
Kathy has starred on NBC's Suddenly Susan and guest starred on multiple legendary TV series including Seinfeld, Law & Order: SVU, Glee, You, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Now she is coming to Connecticut with her first stand up tour in over six years.
The stand up tour is called standup tour My Life On The PTSD List, which will stop at The Belding Theater @ The Bushnell PAC in Hartford, CT on February 16th. In advance of her big Connecticut gig, Kathy joined us on the Wednesday (1/31/24) edition of the I95 Morning Show. While we had her on the show I could not miss my opportunity to ask her about her guest appearances on Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Lou: I think that Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, if you're on both shows, that is the ultimate recognition of your talent as a comedian and you have appeared on both.
Kathy: "I think those guys are so amazing and you know on both of them, they wrote the part for me which was amazing. I was on Seinfeld one time, I then became more well-known when I got on a TV show (Suddenly Susan), then I made fun of Jerry in my first HBO special. He then wrote an episode of Seinfeld where my character comes back and becomes a comedian who just makes fun of Jerry. Then, I got to go be on Seinfeld like the week he announced he was quitting when he was on the cover of Time Magazine. Then, on Curb Your Enthusiasm I just love Larry David he is just a natural, funny, ridiculous person. I got to be on episode 1 of Curb and that was an honor just to be around there. It was such a funny set to be on so I've lived life boys."
Lou: You were the great Sallie Weaver on Seinfeld, it is like you were knighted and they wrote that for you? What a compliment.
Kathy: "What a compliment and I remember I was on a show called "Suddenly Susan" with Brooke Shields and at first they were not going to give me the week off to go do Seinfeld. I remember having to beg them like no, I'll cross-promote it, I'll promote Suddenly Susan and do Seinfeld at the same time. NBC Thursday night, that was such a huge deal so I was so thrilled I was able to do it."
