Jim Florentine Reveals How ‘That Metal’ Trio Reunited For New Show
Jim Florentine is a stand-up comedian, actor and the voice behind some of the greatest prank phone calls of all-time.
But Rock n' Roll fans know him best for his passion for heavy music and his time as a member of VH1's "That Metal Show." We caught up with Jim on the Thursday (1/25/24) edition of the I-95 Morning Show. We asked Jim about his second go around with old pals Eddie Trunk and Don Jamieson on their new Youtube series "That Rocks" which debuted in 2023.
Lou: You reunited with Eddie Trunk and Don Jamieson for a new Yotube show called "That Rocks", tell us about it.
Florentine: "People have been wanting That Metal Show back on the air, it's been off since like 2015 and we don't have a say if it comes back or not. We're not in charge of the show or anything, we just work for it. Anyway, we decided with Youtube and Zoom we could just, instead of a studio space we could just do it from wherever we are and Skype in a guest. It's basically That Metal Show on Zoom is what we're doing. I still do a show on Sirius, and so does Eddie, Don does his own show. We just said hey: why don't we just try this thing out? We're in between seasons right now, we're going to do more but it's fun especially when we don't have to worry about being on a network, studio, high costs and all of that. We don't have to worry about getting picked up by some place, we can just do it on our own."
Lou: You hear people say Rock is dead, What do you think?
Florentine: "There are still a bunch of rock bands and metal bands selling out arenas all the time. People have been saying that forever it's just not on everyone's radar, it's not on the mainstream media's radar rock music. It's more like hip-hop, you know Youtube and TikTok they have hip-hop music in the background so young people aren't exposed to rock, that is why people think rock is dead. Meanwhile, Metallica is selling out two nights at a stadium, 80,000 tickets a night, you know Greta Van Fleet, a bunch of these more obscure bands that are selling 10-15 thousand seats. Rock has never been dead, I don't know why people say that."
Jim has been on the I-95 Morning Show a lot over the years but we've not seen him in-studio in well over a decade. The last time he was here in person was the day I met my wife Erica. That day she was not my wife, she was just some model I was meeting for the first time. It's a true story, take a look at this picture..
