No, all jokes aside, seriously you can't own a lion in the Nutmeg State. According to Find My Law, that is not all. Here are some other exotic animals that are NOT OK to own in the Constitution State:

  • Jaguars
  • Cheetahs
  • Leopards
  • Bobcat
  • Puma
  • Ocelot
  • Lynx
  • Wolf
  • All Wild Dogs
  • Bears
  • Gorilla
  • Coyote
  • Orangutan
  • Coyote
  • Chimpanzee
  • Hyena
  • Wallabies
  • Kangaroos

What can you own? Here is the very short list:

  • Hedgehogs
  • Sugar Gliders
  • Degus
  • Ferrets
  • Primates under 35 lbs at maturity, and owned before 2010

I had this minty fresh plan to get revenge on my neighbor who drives 100 mph in our complex parking lot, and now it's ruined. I wanted to purchase a puma and put it in his backseat before work. That way, if the guy moved, or blinked it would be mauled by the Puma and then he would know that he was driving too fast and putting the children in danger but I'm not willing to live outside the law.

I am very surprised to learn you can purchase and own a hedgehog, and I wonder what is behind that?

The fact is, I don't know much about hedgehogs so I did a little research and here is some of what I learned from Nat Geo Kids:

  • Hedgehogs are mammals
  • In the wild, they only live for about 7 years
  • They have prickly spines everywhere but their face, legs and belly
  • They are largely nocturnal
  • They eat lizards, frogs, eggs, snakes, insects, mice and snails

This makes tons of sense, I can own a needle ball that stays up all night, devouring lizards buy I can't have a lion? Lions barely do anything but lay around and look majestic all day. What is this country coming to?

Greater Danbury Bobcat Sightings, Too Close for Comfort

This morning (4/28/21) on the Ethan and Lou Show we were discussing a viral video from North Carolina. In it, a couple was brutally attacked by a rabid bobcat but according to USA Today, they are going to be OK.

This sent me off on a tirade about bobcats because this happens to be one of my pet peeves. In the Greater-Danbury area, wildlife sightings are frequent and when one animal gets photographed, everyone piles on and says, yeah me too You saw a bear? I saw a bear!

I made the case that too many people are claiming to have seen bobcats recently, and with no proof. I said, look I know they are prevalent but they can't be around in the numbers that people will have you believe. Every Frank and Fran in the area says they saw one yesterday.

I said, if you saw a bobcat, prove it. It looks like I may have been underestimating the bobcats and the Ethan and Lou listeners because they did prove it and in a hurry. These are the Greater-Danbury Bobcat Sightings That are Too Close for Comfort.

Nuclear Lake in Pawling, NY Has an Explosive History

Nuclear Lake is not just a clever name, it's a literal one. Tucked away in the woods of Pawling, NY, once sat a secret research facility. On the shores of the 55 acre body of water, were labs conducting experiments, using uranium and plutonium. The Lake can be accessed by anyone walking the Appalachian Trail in Dutchess County, but should it?
