
Connecticut Shines As A Leader In Fighting Identity Theft
Do you cover the keypad when you enter your pin? Never share your social security number? Change your passwords often? Good, keep it up. We all need to protect ourselves against identity theft. Good news, according to a new study, Connecticut is excellent at preventing identity theft & fraud.

In the past year, numerous 'Skimmers' have been discovered at various businesses around our state, major corporations have data breaches weekly, and every day we hear about 'Check washing' or cryptocurrency schemes. According to WalletHub.com's new study 2025's States Most Vulnerable to Identity Theft and Fraud Connecticut is the 3rd least vulnerable state in all of the US for 2025.
In order to determine their rankings as to where American consumers are most vulnerable to identity theft & fraud, WalletHub compared the 50 states and DC across three key dimensions: Identity Theft, Fraud, and Policy. Those were further evaluated using 15 key metrics: Identity-Theft Complaints per capita, Annual Change in Number of Complaints, Average Loss Amount, Fraud and Other Complaints per capita, Average Loss to Cryptocurrency Schemes, Persons Arrested for Fraud per capita, E-Commerce Attack Rates, Data Disposal Laws, Presence of State Laws addressing Phishing, and Presence of Statewide Cybersecurity Task Force and State Spyware Laws.
According to WalletHub.com's research only two states did better in 2025 at protecting their residents against Identity Theft & Fraud - Vermont and Montana. Connecticut was found to be the absolute best at protecting against identity theft in the country with some of the lowest average loss amount in the US. The worst states for 2025? Florida, California, and Georgia.
