Baseball's Winter Meetings have produced many exciting rumors, many of which involve the New York Mets organization. The Mets have been rumored to be chasing catcher JT Realmuto of the Miami Marlins. Some of the rumors involve the Yankees and what would be a three team trade with the Yankees/Marlins.

In one rumor, the Mets would give up Noah Syndergaard and when the deal was done, they would not only get JT but New York Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar. Other rumors involve moving Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto and prospects for Realmuto and or Andujar.

I've looked at the numbers and what I am seeing is you do the Syndergaard deal. It actually makes no sense to give up Conforto & Nimmo to bring in one or both Andujar & Realmuto. Here are the numbers:

Michael Conforto - Outfielder

2018 - Batting average - .243, OBP - .350, HR - 28, RBI - 82 - GAMES PLAYED - 153

2017 - Batting average - .279, OBP - .384, HR - 27, RBI - 68 - GAMES PLAYED - 109

2016 - Batting Average - .220, OBP - .310, HR - 12, RBI - 42 - GAMES PLAYED - 109

Brandon Nimmo - Outfielder

2018 - Batting Average - .263, OBP - .404, HR - 17, RBI - 47 - GAMES PLAYED - 140

2017 - Batting Average - .260, OBP - .379, HR - 5, RBI - 21 - GAMES PLAYED - 69

JT Realmuto - Catcher

2018 - Batting Average - .277, OBP - .340, HR - 21, RBI - 74 - GAMES PLAYED  -125

2017 - Batting Average - .278, OBP - .332, HR - 17, RBI - 65 - GAMES PLAYED - 141

2016 - Batting Average - .303, OBP - .343, HR - 11, RBI - 48 - GAMES PLAYED - 137

Miguel Andujar - 3B

2018 - Batting Average - .297, OBP - .328, HR - 27, RBI - 92 - GAMES PLAYED - 149

Let's just say you could do a deal moving Conforto/Nimmo and get back Andujar/Realmuto. If you look closely, this makes your offensive output about the same as last year not figuring for what 36 year old Robinson Cano does.

Do the Syndergaard deal instead and your lineup looks downright good. Here is your 1-5 (in no particular order):

  • OF - Brandon Nimmo
  • OF - Michael Conforto
  • C - JT Realmuto
  • 3B - Miguel Andujar
  • 2B - Robinson Cano

Your pitching staff still includes Degrom (best pitcher in baseball) & Wheeler a good #3, potentially #2 starter.

The numbers that no one can argue with:

Mets wins -

2018 - 77

2017 - 70

If the Mets are done moving things around, you have only upgraded your bullpen on a team that has won 70 some odd games the past two seasons. Let's say everything breaks right. The bullpen improvements work, Cano has a big year, you think this gets you to anywhere better than a .500 team? I don't. Maybe it gets you 2 or 3 games over .500.

Noah has to GO-AH!
