I-95 Exclusive: Who Was Kenny Bania’s Favorite Seinfeld Character?
Steve Hytner is a comedian and actor known for his roles in shows like Modern Family, Mike & Molly, and CSI, but he’s most famous for portraying the obnoxious comic, Kenny Bania, on Seinfeld. While Hytner’s on-screen character was anything but charming, in real life, he’s a stand-up comedian far removed from the antics of Kenny.

Steve will be performing live in Connecticut soon, with a special show at the Katherine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (The Kate) on Thursday, January 30th, 2025. Before the event, we had the chance to chat with him about his upcoming performance and, of course, the iconic Seinfeld—here are some of our favorite highlights from the conversation.
Lou: When you sit back and watch Seinfeld episodes and I'm assuming you have over the years, is there someone, one character other than your own that you're a fan of?
Steve: "Oh, that's great. I don't think I've ever been asked that question. It's interesting because sometimes it's hard for your feelings about that person not to influence your answer to some degree. But I think the role of Puddy is incredible. Who turns 'high five' into something brilliant like that? You know, sometimes when people compliment me, they ask, 'How did you turn "that's gold" into such an iconic line?' Well, things happen, and they're meant to happen, and Patrick Warburton is that kind of actor, you know? That role—what was that role? He turned it into what it was. The other actor, for me, the most amazing person to watch work and be around—and I talk about this in my act when I get to a little Seinfeld part—is Jerry Stiller. He's just one of the most amazing people you could ever meet in your life."
