I-95 Exclusive: Jim Breuer Tells All, The Epic Metallica Prank on Queensrÿche
Jim Breuer's "Survival With Laughter" Tour is coming to the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater for one night only on Friday, November 1st. Before Breuer arrives in Peekskill, NY, we had the chance to chat with the legendary comedian about the gig, his career, and his love for heavy metal.
Jim called into the I-95 Morning Show on Friday (10/25/24) for a three-part interview, and this was one of our favorite moments.
Full interview available at the bottom.
Lou: We all know you're a big heavy metal fan, I'm curious what is the best heavy metal folklore you've heard?
Jim: "It's not crazy, but something that James Hetfield shared with me once that I thought was really funny. I guess they toured with Queensrÿche; I remember seeing that, and it was when Queensrÿche was touring Mindcrime, which they shouldn't have been. I don't know who was managing them, but they shouldn't have had them open for Metallica. Nobody—nobody ever had a chance opening for Metallica. Supposedly, on that tour, Metallica would go out and beat the snot out of the world, and I'm a huge fan of both Metallica and Queensrÿche, especially Operation: Mindcrime. I just listened to the whole thing again a week ago, and I thought, how was this never a movie? This is such a brilliant script they put together. Supposedly, every single night after the band would go out and party, they’d wait until different hours to find out where Geoff Tate was sleeping, call him in the middle of the night, and the minute he picked up, they’d just shout 'MINDCRIME' and hang up. No matter how many times he tried to change his name or whatever, they would always find out. Every single night of the tour, their mission was to call him at a time when he was sleeping, shout 'MINDCRIME,' and hang up—complete with the great Hetfield belly laugh, HAHA!"
You can listen to our entire, three-part discussion with Jim below.
Part 1 - Jim talked about the many famous people he shared the halls with at Long Island's Valley Stream Central High School.
Part 2 - Jim spoke about how Eddie Murphy changed his life. He also cleared the air, explaining that he and Metallica are good.
