Hottest Trend: Ladies Are Marrying Trees

According to the NY Post, environmental activists in Mexico are marrying trees to raise awareness to illegal logging practices. Oaxaca, Mexico is where this is taking place. The deforestation in Mexico is apparently a big problem.

To raise awareness some ladies in Oaxaca, Mexico have been having tree marrying ceremonies. A protester named Dolores Leycigi had this to say to Yahoo Lifestyle “Marrying a tree is a way of protesting, to say that we need to stop exterminating Mother Earth every day, every minute, every second." The marriages are not legally binding for the record just a form a protest.

I'm not gonna go off on marrying something that is not human. These ladies don't seem to be like the lunatics that actually believe they fell in love with their car or a bridge. So that I can let go.

My problem is our template as humans for addressing problems now. We do stunts to "raise awareness." Many of the stunts work. They get press, we all become aware and we move on to "raise awareness" for the next thing. At what point is "raising awareness" going to be not enough? Meaning, we all now agree when there is a terrible tragedy that "Thoughts and prayers" are not enough. I think we have reached the same point with "raising awareness."
