Hold the Waffle Mix: Big Y Issues Urgent Recall Notification
2024 has been a tough year for food safety, numerous food products have been recalled due to fears of contamination, and you may have read about the e coli outbreak at McDonald's this morning. I have another recall to add to the list, Big Y World Class Markets has just issued an urgent recall notification to us customers warning about the potential contamination of a certain brand of Belgian Waffles sold in their stores throughout Connecticut.
According to bigy.com via their Product Safety Notices & Recalls alert system, Treehouse Foods, Inc has expanded their voluntary recall on certain Kodiak brand waffle mixes due to the potential of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, young children, frail, or elderly people. Healthy individuals may only suffer short term symptoms.
I've tried a few of the Kodiak brand products that are listed on Bigy.com's recall list, which were distributed throughout the United States and Canada. Big Y will provide a full refund upon return of your product to one of their stores, or you will be issued a refund for discarded products with proof of purchase. The recalled products are:
- Kodiak Power Waffles - Chocolate Chip
- Kodiak Power Waffles - Vanilla Buttermilk
- Kodiak Power Waffles - Thick and Fluffy Chocolate Chip
- Kodiak Power Waffles - Thick and Fluffy Vanilla Buttermilk
- Kodiak Waffles - Cubs Adventure
- Kodiak Waffles - Cubs Adventure Cinnamon
- Kodiak Power Waffles - Thick and Fluffy Blueberry
- Culinary Tours Belgian Waffles Classic
I always follow the advice my dad gave me: When in doubt, throw it out.
