CT City Highlighted As One of the Most 'Underrated' U.S. Cities

There are a lot of places around Connecticut that I think are underrated. I feel like many people can say this about the places they live, because locals know more of the ins and outs rather than someone just coming in for a visit.

I feel like our state gets pretty overlooked because we are surrounded by two giant cities. You have New York City, which has endless amounts of anything you can possibly want and then you have Boston, which is just a smaller version of having so many different things. I feel like you gravitate toward either city depending on where in the state you live.

I love hearing about the underrated cities because I feel they are more off-the-beaten-path and have so many local gems that maybe others wouldn't know about. I came across a list from Readers Digest about the most underrated American cities worth the visit and I was surprised by the comparison.

A Connecticut city was actually compared to the Big Apple. And while I don't see this being a very fair comparison, I kind of understand where they are coming from. The article suggests that instead of visiting New York City, you should try Greenwich, Connecticut. Now, there are some things I get and some that I don't.

First, Greenwich is an easy train ride to/from the city. But, if you want to experience the hustle and bustle of city life, I'm not sure I would pick Greenwich. If you want the boujie, beautiful places, hotels, spas, restaurants, shops, etc., then yes. Greenwich is a good place for you.

The article described it as "a walkable city with all the charm and convenience of a small town." I totally agree with that. If you want the charm of the really nice spots in New York City but don't want to deal with the actual city itself, Greenwich is a great place to go.

I sometimes forget that it's in Connecticut just because I never make my way over there. I'm going to need to take a ride there and check it out soon just for old times sake.

I love exploring Litchfield County since I made the move to Torrington, there are so many underrated restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that don't get the attention of someplace in Hartford, New Haven, or Danbury. Route 44 is a major roadway that cuts across Northern Litchfield County east to west from Lakeville to New Hartford, if you're hungry, here are some great places to stop.
