After months of anticipation, the new Food Emporium in Brookfield is finally ready to roll its carts, according to Hearst CT Media. The 10,000-square-foot store, located at 731 Federal Road, passed its final inspection and received its Certificate of Occupancy, opening its doors on Saturday at 7 a.m. November 22.

It marks the first grocery store on the north side of town — a significant convenience boost for residents who’ve been trekking through Brookfield’s heaviest corridor for their groceries. And sure, the delay happened — supply-chain hiccups, late refrigeration units — but now the certificate of occupancy is in hand and the aisle lights are ready.

The store is part of the Key Food Stores Co‑op, Inc. network, which acquired the Food Emporium banner when The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) went bankrupt in 2015.

Its opening also represents a milestone in Brookfield’s broader downtown revitalization effort, which has seen more than $140 million invested in new housing, commercial buildings, parking, sidewalks, roads, and a park since 2015.

For Brookfield residents who’ve been waiting — and for those who just hate chasing errands across town — this new grocery spot should lighten the load and bring a bit of freshness to the neighborhood. I don't know why, but the Food Emporium Jingle puts a big smile on my face, and makes me want to sing-along!
