Find Out Why Connecticut is Home to the Most Pampered and Beautiful Bovines in the U.S.

They are known as the 'Ladies of Litchfield,' and these 'ladies' are beautiful bovines that live in the lap of luxury at Arethusa Farm at 822 Bantam Road in Bantam, Connecticut. It all began in 1868 when the Webster Family owned a dairy farm named Arethusa Farm that provided milk and dairy products to the local community south of Litchfield.

According to the Arethusa Farm website, in 1999, George Malkemus and Anthony Yurgaitis purchased the farm on Webster Road to preserve open farmland. Webster's descendants agreed to return the name Arethusa to the farm.

In 2001, George and Tony purchased their first five purebred registered Holsteins. A small, rare breed called Jerseys and Brown Swiss would soon follow. In June 2004, the herd had grown to over 350 head. They were honored with the prestigious title of Premiere Holstein Breeder at the World Dairy Expo.

By January 2005, production had begun at the new dairy, and a retail store opened in July. All of these products are made exclusively with milk from Arethusa's cows. As you enter the barn, a sign reads, '“Every cow in this barn is a lady, please treat her as such.” Let's go meet the 'ladies.'
