Newtown’s ‘Everyone Knows Some1′ Stands Up to Stigma While Fighting Addiction
Newtown's Matt DeLuca is in recovery and he's sick and tired of seeing his friends dying.
Matt is the first to admit that his addiction delivered him into the living bowels of hell. He was labeled a junkie and a scumbag. He was embarrassed, ashamed, and mostly terrified of what he had become. He was labeled a horrible person and a troublemaker by people who barely knew him. Matt had a disease called Drug Addiction and he needed help. According to The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse:
Addiction is a complex disease of the brain and body that involves compulsive use of one or more substances despite serious health and social consequences.
Matt DeLuca got that help as did my son, EJ. Realizing that addiction touches everyone, including the addict's family, friends, and loved ones, Matt developed a concept for a new Facebook page titled, Everyone Knows Someone, which gives a voice to individuals who suffer from substance abuse and addiction on a daily basis.
My son, Ethan (EJ) I'm proud to say has become an active member of this wonderful group, thanks to Matt. EJ then went on to tell me that the Everyone Knows Someone FB group has two goals:
To reduce the stigma attached to those affected by addiction and to show those affected that THEY ARE NOT ALONE.
