Edible Cookie Dough Craze Catches on in Connecticut
I never got this edible cookie dough thing! It just doesn't work for me.
There have been times in my life when I've brought home some Nestle's chocolate chip cookie dough mix on orders from my wife, and then 5 hours later half the package has disappeared. Even the sight of cookie dough makes me nauseous. I can't explain it. Eating raw cookie dough is like being disrespectful to the cookies they were meant to be. As it turns out, I stand with the minority.
Edible cookie dough that was safe to eat began at The Cookie Dough Cafe in Illinois back in 2011. According to eater.com., Kristin Tomlan opened up Do, pronounced 'dough' in Manhattan in 2017 and during the first couple of months, the lines to get a scoop of cookie dough were up to two hours long.
According to an article in the NewsTimes, Stew Leonard Jr. knew something was up when his daughter, who lives in New York City began telling him about Do and the long lines. Stew Leonard's bakery manager, Loretta Miller at the Danbury store got the word and then got to work on a cookie dough recipe, which she says only took one day to put it all together and now "It's selling like crazy!" Here's another option for your beloved cookie dough, whip it up yourself!
