Leaf Blowers in Downtown Danbury: The Snow-Clearing Nightmare
I just sat down to start my day at work, and it’s 4 a.m. This is pretty standard for me, but today, I can barely keep my eyes open. It’s going to be a long one, and the culprit? An army of men with leaf blowers who kept me awake all night.

I live in Downtown Danbury, where, apparently, leaf blowers have become the go-to tool for clearing snow. Time of day? Doesn’t matter. One of the worst offenders is the nearby assisted living facility for seniors. Whoever’s in charge of snow removal there has a habit of starting their work around 9:30-10:00 p.m., and it doesn’t stop until it’s done.
Last night, I was hoping to fall asleep around 9:30 p.m., and I finally managed to drift off. Just as I hit REM sleep, then leaf blowers kicked in. It’s like a constant, deafening roar that makes it impossible to ignore. After about 30 minutes, it quiets down, and you start to convince yourself it’s over—until it’s not. It’s like a bad headache that won’t go away, coming in waves.
By 3 a.m., I had completely lost my patience. I leaned out the window and started yelling, realizing I only had about 10 or 15 minutes left to sleep before my alarm went off. In hindsight, I should’ve filmed it, but I wasn’t thinking clearly at that point. Eventually, I had to get up, shower, and head to work.
On my drive in, I noticed the leaf blowers were everywhere, not just at the assisted living building, but throughout the whole neighborhood. This time, I made sure to snap some pictures. Honestly, I don’t even know what to say, except—WTF!? Is this normal? Am I the only one who is fed up with this? I really hate being the community complaint czar, but someone has to say it.
So, if you live in Downtown Danbury, good luck trying to sleep after a snowfall.
I hate when I'm forced to sound like an old man but C'mon!
