Danbury House Fire Displaces 15 Residents, Sends One to Hospital
According to a release from the Danbury Fire Department, firefighters battled a serious house fire Tuesday afternoon on Meadow Street that left 15 people displaced and sent one person to the hospital.

The call came into Danbury Fire Dispatch at around 4 p.m. reporting a fire at a three-family residence. Engine 23 was the first unit to arrive and firefighters found an active fire on the third floor of the building.

Because of the conditions they encountered, the incident was quickly upgraded to a Second Alarm, bringing additional firefighters and equipment to the scene. Crews immediately went to work on the fire while residents were still making their way out of the building.

Firefighters were also told that someone might still be trapped inside, so crews conducted both primary and secondary searches of the residence. Fortunately, everyone was ultimately accounted for and no one was left inside.

One person was treated at the scene for burns and smoke inhalation before being transported to the Emergency Department at Danbury Hospital. The fire department says that person's current condition is not known.

With 15 residents unable to return home, the aftermath of the fire is going to be a major headache for those families. The Office of Emergency Management responded to the scene and is working with the American Red Cross to help provide assistance and support to everyone displaced by the fire.

As for what caused the fire, that's still being investigated. The Danbury Fire Marshal's Office is handling the investigation, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
It's another reminder of just how quickly a house fire can turn a normal afternoon into a major emergency, especially in a multi-family building where multiple households can be affected at once.
