Danbury Mayor Hits Back: My Opponent Has No Platform
Each week for the past month, the I-95 Morning Show has dedicated two long-form segments to talking with the candidates for Mayor of Danbury.
On Wednesdays at 9:20 we would speak to Danbury Democratic challenger Roberto Alves. Then on Thursdays at 9:20 we would chat with Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito.
We're not political show so why do we do this? In short, I'm a Danbury resident who cares deeply about his community and I believe this is the best way I can be of service. I'm using my platform to inform the public on their options in a very personal way. This allows the voters to hear the candidate's respective platforms and gives the residents a glimpse at their personalities.
Wednesday (11/01/23) was the last chance to speak with Roberto Alves before the election and we asked him what he will do for the city of Danbury, Alves responded:
"When it comes down to the question and what we want to do, first and foremost it's just basic honesty, right? It's what we raise our children to be, you want them to be accountable, you want them to have integrity, above all you just want them to be honest, that is what we desperately need from the government in this country on so many levels. Clearly, the city, the municipal level here in Danbury it's been lacking and we want to bring that honesty and integrity and accountability to the city government."
Thursday (11/02/23) was the final time we would speak to the Mayor before election day. We asked what his plan is for the city if he's re-elected. The Mayor outlined his platform and responded to the comments by Alves from the day prior.
Lou: There has been a lot of contentious back-and-forth between you and your opponent Roberto Alves in the media. We've heard what you both have had to say about one another and now we want to hear what you hope to accomplish should you be re-elected?
Mayor:: "Well thank you Lou & Dave, I know Ethan is out today, I have to tell you I did hear my opponent on the show yesterday and you know what I didn't hear from him is a platform. What is he going to do better for the City of Danbury than we have been doing or I have been doing for the last two years. You know, I've mentioned this before, I was born and raised here and I love this city. This job I've been blessed to get for the City of Danbury is the ultimate, right? I think what we have to focus on is facts, I've proven myself to be a leader of this city, I've provided the services that I pledged when I first got nominated and then I got elected and we moved forward with getting those things done. We're working on education, we're working on roads, you know the whole list of things we've been doing here but unfortunately my opponent never really addresses issues he just continues to bash me personally, almost in a slanderous way. You know he's a one-term failed councilman and I'm thirty years of representing the people of the city. So I'm very confident the people are going to re-elect me so I can continue to do what I've been doing and that is getting the job done for them."
We also spoke with the Mayor about his recent distribution of ARPA funds and his confidence level heading into election day. You can hear the full conversation below.
