Danbury Man Charged With Setting Multiple Fires in Lower Hudson Valley
In late November, the Brewster Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Old Milltown Road and it was similar to other fires over the past year all in the same area. That, of course, triggered an investigation.
According to a Facebook post, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department enlisted the help of Dutchess County Sheriff arson detection K9 and found the presence of an accelerant in the evidence of some of the fires. Putnam County 911 dispatchers compiled a list of brush fire calls on that road and from that were able to develop a suspect.
After that, the stakeout happened, minus Richard Dreyfus and Emilio Estevez, and that surveillance led to the observation of the suspect on Old Milltown Road. From the Putnam County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page:
After interviewing the suspect, 71-year-old Frederick Delfay, he confessed to setting the fires.
He was arrested and charged with five counts of Arson in the 5th degree, a class A misdemeanor. He was processed and released with an appearance ticket returnable in the Town of Southeast Court.
