Danbury Student Safe in London After Terrorist Attacks
A Danbury college student who was studying in London is safe after being was only minutes away from the terrorist attacks that happened this week.
19-year-old Kassie Mendes, a Danbury High graduate and a Quinnipiac University student, was chatting with her boyfriend from her dorm room in London when the terrorist attack occurred. Mendes told NBC Connecticut she was only 20 minutes from the terror attacks in London's Parliament. Safely in her dorm room, she could hear the sounds of mass confusion, telling NBC Connecticut:
I heard most of the sirens the helicopters, that kind of stuff!
Kassie is a psychology major and one of 13 Quinnipiac students spending a semester studying in London. All of the students were safe and sound in their dorm rooms when the lone gunman attacked. In all, five people were killed including the terrorist and many were injured.
Four years ago, Kassie Mendes was in her geography class at Danbury High when a deranged gunman slaughtered 20 children and 6 adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Why does this have to be our way of life today and will it get worse?
