CT Prisoner Confesses to Murder at Macdougal Walker Correctional Facility
According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, on December 12, 2024, Troopers from Troop H - Hartford were called to the Macdougal Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield to investigate a reported murder. When authorities arrived at the scene, detectives from the Central District Major Crimes Squad were quick to begin their investigation, and the suspect was identified as 30-year-old Kyle McKinnon.

McKinnon, who was already in custody for unrelated charges, confessed to the murder, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant. The arrest affidavit states that McKinnon was questioned on video by DOC staff and stated, "I choked him out." The affidavit goes on to say that when DOC staff asked if he choked him until he stopped breathing, he replied "Yup."
McKinnon's warrant was submitted for review at Hartford Superior Court, where it was later approved. On February 21, 2025, while McKinnon was still under the Department of Corrections' custody, authorities served the warrant to officially charge him with the crime.
McKinnon now faces serious charges related to the murder, including first-degree strangulation. He was held on a $1,000,000 bond and was arraigned the same day at Hartford Superior Court.
The charges against McKinnon are as follows:
- C.G.S. 53a-54a - Murder
- C.G.S. 53a-64aa - Strangulation in the First Degree
This case remains under investigation, and McKinnon's legal proceedings are ongoing.
