If you live in Connecticut you know we have a lot of labradors and that the Husky was recently named the state dog but none of that applies here. It appears Connecticut residents are not searching for labs or huskies the most. In the end, the most popular dog by search in the Nutmeg State is the Cane Corso.

The Cane Corso was the runaway winner with 916,000 searches. Here are CT's Top 5:

1. Cane Corso - 916,000 searches

2. Bernese Mountain Dog - 532,000 searches

3. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - 481,150 searches

4. Belgian Malinois - 456,380 searches

5. German Shepherd - 417,400 searches

This is how the American Kennel Club describes this dog breed:

"Smart, trainable, and of noble bearing, the assertive and confident Cane Corso is a peerless protector. The Corso's lineage goes back to ancient Roman times, and the breed's name roughly translates from the Latin as 'bodyguard dog. At nearly 28 inches at the shoulder and often weighing more than 100 pounds, with a large head, alert expression, and muscles rippling beneath their short, stiff coat, Corsi are at a glance intimidating creatures. Their imposing appearance is their first line of defense against intruders. As one writer put it, 'An understated air of cool competence, the kind of demeanor you'd expect from a professional bodyguard, is the breed's trademark. Corsi are intelligent, loyal, eager to please, versatile, and intensely loyal to their humans, but are also assertive and willful, and can end up owning an unwitting owner. As with any other big guardian dog, responsible breeding and early socialization with people and other dogs is vital."

It's also worth noting that the breed's name does not sound the way it reads, the Kennel Club says it's pronounced: Connie Corso. Here is a better picture of the Cane Corso.

That is a pretty dog, I love any dog that sweats from the mouth.

Bonus Study Information: Connecticut has the third lowest rate of rental properties allowing dogs, at 15.5%. Only two other states saw rates below 20%, with 19% of properties in New Jersey and 19.9% in Massachusetts allowing dogs of any size. This suggests the East Coast region could be less accessible for renters with larger dog breeds.
