Which State is Better for Sports Lovers, CT or NY?
Some of you might find this question amusing, but I believe it's important to ask and present it for discussion: Which state offers a better experience for sports enthusiasts, Connecticut or New York?
A recent study conducted by Smile Hub took a deep-dive to determine the best states for sports lovers nationwide. What exactly does that entail? To clarify, let's outline the metrics they examined:
"In order to determine the best states for sports, SmileHub compared the 50 states across three key dimensions: 1) Sports Interest & Success, 2) Sports Careers & Income, and 3) Access to Sports.
These dimensions were evaluated using 20 relevant metrics, detailed below along with their respective weights. Each metric was graded on a scale of 100 points, where 100 indicated the highest level of support for sports. For metrics marked with an asterisk (*), the square root of the population was used to adjust for differences in state populations."
One of the critical metrics assessed was the "Number of Pro Sports Teams," this is what they determined from the study.
Top 10 States for Sports Lovers:
1 - New York
2 - California
3 - Ohio
4 - Illinois
5 - Indiana
6 - Pennsylvania
7 - Colorado
8 - North Carolina
9 - Florida
10 - Iowa
Bottom 10 States for Sports Lovers:
41 - Idaho
42 - Wyoming
43 - Georgia
44 - Vermont
45 - Maine
46 - Arkansas
47 - Alabama
48 - New Mexico
49 - Alaska
50 - Hawaii
Ultimately, Connecticut was ranked as the 30th best state for sports lovers, while New York claimed the top spot overall. From the outset, it's clear this was never a fair fight. New York boasts teams like the Giants, Jets, Bills, Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Islanders, Sabres, Knicks, and Nets. In contrast, Connecticut's offerings include the Connecticut Sun, Hartford Yard Goats, and Danbury Hat Tricks, among others. It's a clash between major leagues and local teams.
Connecticut ranked poorly in "Fewest Sports Clubs Per Capita," highlighting a scarcity of sports bars, sporting goods stores, and related job opportunities. Despite having a sizable fan base, Connecticut lacks substantial local support or reasons to rally around its sports scene.
This underscores why Dan Hurley is the beacon of hope and joy for Connecticut's sports fans. He stands out as a figure who brings happiness and optimism to the state's devoted but often neglected sports fans. He is our king!
P.S. I'm well aware that the Giants and Jets don't even play in NY and Buffalo is basically Canada but I'm just presenting things as they appear in the sports universe.
