If you look out of your window and see a family of wild turkeys outside of your home or vehicle, the CT DEEP would love for you to count how many and report back to them.

From my perspective our native wildlife is enjoying a great year in 2025. I've seen an incredible variety of wild animals over the past 6 months: bears, opossums, raccoons, chipmunks, eagles, deer and turkey are everywhere. How is this possible? I think some credit is due to the hardworking members of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's (CT DEEP) Wildlife Division.

Right now through August 31, 2025, you can help our environmental warriors by participating in the CT DEEP's annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey.

What is This Survey, and How is it Helping?

What the Wildlife Division is doing is asking for the public's eyes in helping them assess Connecticut's wild turkey population. Our eyewitness counts will help provide a rough idea of how successful the wild turkeys of Connecticut are at breeding and avoiding bad weather, predators, and hungry turkey hunters.

Would you rather spend your leisure time counting bald eagles or bobcats? That's cool too, there are many different wildlife projects posted to the Wildlife Division's Community Science/Volunteer Opportunities page.

In addition to wild turkeys, the CT DEEP's Wildlife Division has requested your assistance with locating and reporting where and how many fishers, ruffled grouse, and chimney swifts you see.
