Connecticut Ranks 12th For Teacher Friendliness In 2025 Study

We're just two weeks into the school year after a nice long Summer break and news has just come out that Connecticut has been ranked near the top of a recent study of the best & worst states for teachers in 2025.

According to WalletHub.com's Best & Worst States for Teachers (2025). Connecticut has been ranked as the 12th best states in the US for teachers this year. In order to determine 'Teacher-friendliness' WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key dimensions - Opportunity & Competition, and Academic & Work Environment. Those dimensions were further evaluated using 24 relevant metrics: Average Starting and Average Salary for teachers, Income Growth Potential, Average Pension, Public School Enrollment Growth, Length of Time Before Tenure Kicks In, Existence of Digital Learning Plan, Quality of School System, Pupil-Teacher Ratio, Spending Per Student, Projected Share of Teacher Turnover, and Average Commute Time were all factored in.

Connecticut was ranked at #12 overall, WalletHub determined that Connecticut ranked #31 in Opportunity & Competition, and #4 in Academic & Work Environment. Connecticut was also determined to have the second-best school system in the country, only Massachusetts ranked higher.

How Did Connecticut Compare to Our Neighbors?

The best states for teachers in 2025 according to WalletHub were Virginia, Utah, and Washington, while the bottom three include our Northern New England neighbor Maine, Montana, and Hawaii. Maine was New England's lowest ranked state, while New York was listed at #4, Massachusetts at #9, New Jersey at #11, and the rest of the New England states in between #29-48.

Most of my friends who are teachers are approaching retirement age, and most are more than ready to pack it up.
