Connecticut Named as One of ‘Best States to Have a Baby’ in 2024
Congratulations expectant mothers of Connecticut, you've made a great choice having your child here. According to a recent study, Connecticut is nearly one of the best states in all of the US to have a baby in 2024.
You may think I'm joking, but I'm glad I was born in Waterbury. Waterbury is around a half an hour from most of the major cities - Hartford, New Haven, Danbury, Bridgeport, and Stamford. Connecticut is the middle ground between Boston, Providence, and New York City, and we get the best of what the greatest city in the world, and New England offers.
WalletHub.com just released Best & Worst States to Have a Baby - 2024, and Connecticut has landed near the top, ranked the 15th best state to have a baby in 2024. In order to arrive at their rankings, WalletHub.com compared data from the 50 states and DC across 4 key dimensions: Cost, Health Care, Baby-Friendliness, and Family-Friendliness. That data was compared across 31 dimensions: Cost of daycare, hospital delivery charges, Average health insurance premium, and cost of babysitter/nanny. Connecticut's infant mortality rate, rates of low-birth weight and pre-term, quality of women's hospitals, doctors per capita, rate of postpartum depression, child-care centers per capita, and share of nationally accredited childcare centers were among the 31 dimensions used to give each state an overall score out of 100.
Connecticut's overall costs for having a baby were deemed horrendous, landing us at #45, but our Healthcare, Child-Friendly, and Family-Friendly rankings were 13, 13, and 12th best for 2024. The best state overall for 2024? Massachusetts. In fact, all of our fellow New England states landed above us in the study.
