Think cult favorites, local legends, and comfort food that’s supposed to feel like a reward after a long drive.

For Connecticut, the pick is Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield. I haven’t personally been there, but they say this place is hot dog heaven. Fans rave about the snap of the dogs, the toasted buns, and the topping options that range from classic mustard and relish to chili and onions that get delightfully messy. The general consensus seems to be that one dog isn’t enough, fries are mandatory, and extra napkins are non-negotiable. Simple, no-nonsense, Connecticut-style comfort food done right… allegedly, but convincingly.

As for our neighbors in New York, the nod goes to Pies ’n’ Thighs in Brooklyn. It’s known for fried chicken, flaky biscuits, and pies that people insist you save room for. The vibe is cozy, the food is indulgent, and it’s the kind of place that shows up on a lot of “worth the trip” lists for a reason.

If this is the level of food we’re talking about state by state, that road trip is going to need a very loose schedule and a very forgiving waistband.
