I talk about this sometimes, but it always interests me to see what grocery brand different places around the country have. While some of them are not very different, some really are. I've talked about this a lot with the new Wegmans opening up here in Connecticut. People from here who haven't experienced it are going to have such an elevated shopping experience. Or, let's take Stew Leonard's for example. When people from different states come to Stew's, they are probably like what the heck is going on? It's still one of the best grocery stores ever, but that's a conversation for another day.

I came across an article from Stacker about the most popular grocery stores across the United States and I was kind of surprised that Connecticut only had 9 (soon to be 10) out of the 16 store brands on the list. There were also some that I've never even heard of, for that matter. And even better, the most popular grocery store is one of my favorites.

Let's start with the list of Connecticut stores.

  • #17 - Walmart
  • #15 - BJ's Wholesale
  • #10 - Target
  • #9 - ShopRite
  • #8 - Costco
  • #7 - Aldi
  • #5 - Whole Foods
  • #4 - Sam's Club
  • And #1 we will get to in just a little bit

Now all of these stores listed above are blanketed all around the state (minus Sam's Club - there is only 1 Connecticut location). It doesn't surprise me to see these stores on the list, but it also puts into perspective just how many grocery chains there are.

Another thing I found interesting was all of the stores that have no Connecticut locations. Here they are and their rankings:

  • #19 - Giant Eagle
  • #18 - Save-A-Lot
  • #16 - Albertsons
  • #14- Hy-Vee
  • #13 - Kroger & Ahold Delhaize
  • #11 - Meijer
  • #6 - H-E-B
  • #3 - Wegmans (soon!)
  • #2 - Publix

I've honestly never heard of some of the stores that aren't in our state. Some of them are of course common, but some I have no idea what they're like.

Now for the moment we've been waiting for - the most popular grocery store in the United States. Trader Joe's!! Did you guess it?

Trader Joe's currently has 9 Connecticut locations - Danbury, Darien, Fairfield, Glastonbury, Manchester, Orange, Stamford, West Hartford and Westport. I know more will be added in the coming years, as well.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Trader Joe's and I do a lot of my shopping there. But the one downfall is that I always still need to make another store trip for some things that I just simply can not get there. But other than that, I will always be loyal to Trader Joe's.

The Four Worst Trader Joe's Parking Lots in Connecticut - Ranked

Could it be that Trader Joe's deliberately chose the busiest and smallest parking lots for their stores across Connecticut? Out of their nine locations across the state, here are the four worst, in my opinion.

4 Connecticut Based Department Stores That Are No More

I certainly remember shopping at three of the stores on this list and it transports me back to my youth and that makes it a find memory. These 4 stores were not only wildly popular in their day but they had their national headquarters right here in the Nutmeg State.
