According to Davies & Associates, Connecticut has officially landed in the Top 10 for happiest employees in America — and honestly, that’s not something you always expect to hear about a state where we spend half the year complaining about taxes and traffic.

The study looked at the stuff that actually impacts your day-to-day life: salary, hours worked, paid time off, commute times, resignation rates, and access to benefits. Basically, all the things that determine whether you wake up ready to tackle the day — or stare at the ceiling wondering if you can fake a Wi-Fi outage.

Connecticut performed pretty well across the board. The average salary here is around $76,000, which ranks near the top nationally. The typical workweek sits at about 33.5 hours, which is fairly reasonable. And when it comes to paid time off, we’re tied for first with an average of 11.4 days. That’s real, actual, guilt-free time to not check your email.

More than 90% of workers here have access to paid sick leave, and our average commute is just under 27 minutes — which, if you avoid I-95 at the wrong time, feels accurate enough.

Top 10 states for happiest employees are:

1. New Jersey
2. California
3. New York
4. Washington
5. Massachusetts
6. Delaware
7. Pennsylvania
8. Connecticut
9. Utah
10. Oregon

The takeaway? Happiness at work isn’t just about money. It’s about manageable hours, solid benefits, and the ability to take time off without feeling like you’ve committed a crime.

Now, if I personally never had to work again, I would transition into retirement immediately and flawlessly. You always hear that when people stop working, they don’t know what to do with themselves. Some people even fade away because they “need structure.” Not me. I would live. I would thrive. I would become a professional relaxer. This is the dream.

Until that day comes, though, it’s nice to know Connecticut workers are apparently doing something right.

8 Fun Facts About Danbury Airport

I think there are a handful of places in Danbury that residents are really curious about but never bother to look into, one of those places is the Danbury Airport. We pass it on the way to the mall, or leaving after a day of shopping. We look down on it from Route 7 and wonder about it, but most of us simply don’t know.

Thankfully, we have Mike Allen who made the airport the subject of the most recent episode of “The Place You Live”. On Tuesday (2/1/22), Allen shared his research with us and these are 8 fun facts we learned about Danbury Airport.
