When I first moved here, I was constantly frustrated by the dangerous, costly, and bizarre nature of driving in the Nutmeg State. Years later, I’m still amazed by the chaos on the roads. Connecticut is a uniquely challenging place to navigate by car. Here are 10 shocking facts about driving in CT that you need to know for 2024 and beyond.

They call it the Constitution State because you need a strong constitution to get up every day and say yes I will do this again, I will enter the Mad Max universe. Every morning, you need to brace yourself to get behind the wheel, risking your life and potentially damaging your car in a pothole the size of a small house. You grit your teeth, white-knuckle the steering wheel, and navigate the melee all so you can feed your family. LUCKY US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of the things I see on a daily basis:
- People doing 46 mph in the passing lane on the highway
- Motorcycles splitting lanes
- People blatantly running red lights
- Pedestrians crossing outside the crosswalk
- People cranking their music beyond what is reasonable
- Tailgating
- Organized car races on the highway
- People having no clue where their exit is and suddenly crossing two lanes at the last second
- Someone with their hideous foot-piece sticking out the passenger window - No one wants to see your hoof, tuck it in!
- Honking, aggression, and fury
