Connecticut Shines As A Top State For Diversity In 2025
A new study has just been released ranking the Most & Least Diverse States in America for 2025, and while Connecticut ranks among the best, New England is also home to three of the least.
Connecticut has reaped the benefits of diversity just by being within 50 miles of Boston, Providence, and New York City. We get new businesses, cuisine, and residents as city folk get tired of the grind and look for greener pastures. I have frequently noticed the lack of diversity in cuisine North of Boston in my travels to Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, and thought of how lucky we are in Connecticut. We saw that during the pandemic around here and absorbed quite a few New York transplants into Connecticut. Danbury has recently been listed as one of the most diverse cities in the US for 2025.
A new study by WalletHub has ranked states based on diversity for 2025, and Connecticut just missed the Top 15, coming in at #14 on WalletHub's rankings. Based on WalletHub's research Connecticut has the 10th best ranking in socioeconomic diversity, 14th best cultural diversity, ranked #48 in economic diversity, and #27 in household diversity. Connecticut, ranked at #14 overall, is the highest ranking state in New England for 2025.
Our neighbors to the West New York and New Jersey ranked even higher at #6&7, but the diversity rankings fall quickly as you move North of Connecticut. Rhode Island and Massachusetts ranked at #20 & 21, and then Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine land at #'s 47-49. The least diverse state in the US for 2025 according to WalletHub? West Virginia. The most diverse? California, Texas, and New Mexico.
