Decades after the smash success of the Chappelle Show, Donnell Rawlings is still one of the hottest names in stand-up comedy. Donnell has a new Netflix special "A New Day" and he's back on tour right now with two Connecticut dates on the horizon.

Rawlings is bringing his "Black & Mild" tour to the Hartford Funny Bone on September 7th and 8th. We caught up with Ashy Larry on the Tuesday (08/27/24) edition of the I-95 Morning Show. These are a few of our favorite moments.

Lou: You know the name, it's Ashy Larry himself, Donnell Rawlings, what's up man?

Donnell: "No, we're not going to start with disrespect! We're not talking to Ashy Larry himself, we're talking to Donnell Rawlings himself who happens to have the alter-ego of Ashy Larry, which he dismissed that character and he's not ashy anymore. I would prefer that you call me by Ashford Lawrence."

Lou: We haven't had a chance to talk to you in years, what do you think of all this Diddy stuff? If you watch enough TikTok, they have this guy killing JFK.

Donnell: "I know one thing, I can't drink Ciroc anymore that is for sure, that is out of the question. I had to do a burial for Ciroc, I had my last bottle and I was like it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday. I don't know what to think of the Diddy situation because I have attended a Diddy party. Before you pass judgement, Diddy throws the best parties you will ever go to in your life, you just gotta know when to leave! Nothing good happens at 3 o'clock in the morning. Take your butt home!"

Lou: So you didn't catch any stray booty juices?

Donnell: "Watch your mouth, my son is in the car!"

Dave: Your time on the Chappelle Show, those sketches have resonated through the years. That must have been such an incredible experience to be a part of. Do you look back on it now with just fond memories?

Donnell: "Yeah the thing about it with social media now, it's interesting we shot that show, we're going on like 25 years and for some reason because of memes and everything I cannot get past it. Something is always popping up whether it's a meme of me and Charlie or somebody echoing I'm rich biatch! It's just one of those shows that people took to it. I hear some people say, oh what has he done since the Chappelle Show? I've got a very strong resume since then it just so happens that I was part of a show that changed the landscape of sketch comedy and made history. I was reading an article in Entertainment Weekly some years ago and they listed the Top 100 TV shows in history and The Wire and Chappelle Show ranked in the Top 100. I was like, there is something to be said about me being part of two shows that people are going to look at as two of the best in TV history."
