Chain Reaction Crash on Connecticut Highway Under Investigation
According to a press release from the CT State Police, a truck driver is recovering in the hospital after a terrifying crash on Interstate 395 South this past Tuesday. The truck, which was carrying a heavy 25,000-pound metal beam, rear-ended two cars, causing a chain reaction that left the driver trapped and seriously injured.
According to state police, when the truck slammed into the vehicles ahead, the massive metal beam shifted and crashed through the driver’s compartment. This left the truck driver pinned, and emergency crews had to work quickly to free them. Thankfully, the driver was taken to the hospital but suffered serious injuries. Two other drivers involved in the crash were also hospitalized, though their injuries were minor.
The accident caused major delays as the highway was shut down between exits 18 and 14 for several hours. Crews worked hard to clear the scene, and the road finally reopened around 8 p.m.
In addition to the crash cleanup, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) had to respond to a fuel spill at the site.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and state police are asking anyone with information to reach out to Trooper Timothy Wengloski at 860-848-6500. Hopefully, with more details, authorities will be able to get to the bottom of what caused this frightening incident.
