Every fall, as the air turns crisp and the holidays inch closer, the familiar sight of tents, RVs, and bundled-up broadcasters pops up at BJ’s in Brookfield. It can only mean one thing: Camping for Cans is back. This year’s event runs Friday, November 21 through Sunday, November 23, and once again, we’re asking the community to come together for an important local cause.

What Camping for Cans Is All About

Camping for Cans is I-95’s annual food and donation drive supporting Hillside Food Outreach, an organization that has long been a lifeline for people in our region. Hillside’s mission is simple but powerful: to deliver high-quality, nutritious food to low-income individuals, the chronically ill, the disabled, and anyone unable to access a traditional food pantry. Their work goes far beyond filling pantry shelves—they aim to improve health, provide access, and strengthen the community through education, compassion, and consistent care.

Everything collected during this weekend—every can, every dollar, every online donation—goes straight toward helping local families who rely on Hillside’s home-delivery model to achieve a better quality of life.

Where to Donate Friday, November 21 through Sunday, November 23

We’ll be collecting donations all weekend at:
BJ’s Wholesale
106 Federal Rd, Brookfield, CT

Why This Weekend Matters

What makes Camping for Cans so meaningful is the way the community shows up. Some people bring a single bag of groceries, others pull in with carloads. Kids drop off food they’ve collected from neighbors. People stop by just to say hello, share stories, or hand over a few dollars. And throughout it all, the I-95 crew stays on-site—day and night—broadcasting live and reminding everyone what can happen when a community rallies together.

Hillside helps thousands of individuals each year, and the donations from this weekend are a major part of keeping that work going strong through the winter.
