Brookfield’s Camping For Cans Brings Community Together For A Cause
Every year, I-95 packs up and heads into the “wild” — otherwise known as the concrete jungle outside BJ’s in Brookfield, CT — for the weekend before Thanksgiving.
For three straight days, we set up shop with one goal in mind: raise as much money and gather as much food as humanly possible for Hillside Food Outreach.

Hillside is an incredible organization that supports local families dealing with food insecurity.
They don’t just hand out bags of groceries; they deliver healthy food directly to people who need it most — seniors, the chronically ill, folks with disabilities, and anyone struggling to make ends meet.
Their impact in the Greater Danbury area is real, immediate, and life-changing.
We call the event Camping for Cans, and the name comes from the early days when I literally camped out in an RV from Dave’s RV for the entire weekend.
Back then, I stayed on-site around the clock — eating there, sleeping there, freezing there — whatever it took to keep the energy up and the donations flowing.
These days, the RV still shows up and the spirit hasn’t changed, but I’m way too old to be pulling the full stunt version anymore.
The mission, however, remains exactly the same: collect more donations than the year before.
And this year? We crushed it. By the middle of our second broadcast day, we had already passed last year’s total.
We’ll have the official numbers soon, but let’s just say things went extremely well.
In 2025, we were surrounded by friends, family, sponsors, and our incredibly generous listeners.
The entire weekend was filled with laughter, great conversations, and a true spirit of giving — the kind of energy that makes this event my favorite tradition of the entire year.
We can’t wait to do it again next November, and we hope you’ll join us.
If you couldn’t make it out this time, you can still make a difference.
Just visit hillsidefoodoutreach.org and donate whatever amount feels right for you.
Thank you in advance for supporting Hillside and helping lift up the Greater Danbury community.
You really want to join us next year if you never have, it's a lot of fun.
