Brewster officials have recently disclosed plans for a new and improved remake of Brewster's Village Center.

According to an article in the Southeast Patch, county and town officials have unveiled the details of Phase 1 of the Transit Oriented Development Project. Work will begin on Phase 1 in 2018 and will include the area bounded by Main Street, Railroad Ave., Marvin Ave., and the Southeast Museum. Some of the new projects planned are a new parking structure for 550 cars, a central open spaced plaza surrounded by new multi-use buildings which will include 290 new apartments along with retail and commercial space.

The project is, in part, aimed at attracting and keeping millennials in Putnam County by offering them appealing live-work-play environments along with easy access for commuting to New York City.

The overall goal is to revitalize an economically distressed community by creating jobs along with an improved quality of life for village residents. I'll leave you with a useless fun fact. Brewster was featured as Marlow Thomas's hometown on the ABC TV show, 'That Girl'  that aired from '66 to '71.
