A Highland Falls man with a lengthy rap sheet was charged in this week's flashing at the Butterfield Memorial Library in Cold Spring.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Benjamin Thompson, 36, of Highland Falls exposed himself to a woman at the library on Monday.

Police circulated a surveillance photo from the library and received tips in the case through social media, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. Thompson was taken into custody in Highland Falls on Thursday night and charged with public lewdness.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said Thompson has an extensive criminal record, including convictions for burglary, automobile theft, felony drug distribution, battery against an officer and rioting in Florida and fraud in Georgia.

Thompson was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. If convicted of public lewdness, he faces up to six months in jail.
