‘American Pickers’ Episode in Connecticut Set to Air on History Channel
I don't know about you, but I love checking out local antique stores and places like Litchfield County Pickers -- you never know what you'll find. That's why I'm a big fan of the TV show, American Pickers.
If you're not familiar with the hit History Channel show, it follows pickers, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, as they travel all around the country looking for classic pieces of Americana.
During last summer, their travels brought them here to Connecticut, as they paid a visit to a former Italian grocery store in Derby. The store, which dates back to the 1800s, was run by the great-great uncle of Matt Catalano from Stratford. He answered an ad in the Connecticut Post, saying that the pickers would be coming to Connecticut and that the family store, which closed in 1954, was loaded with items that he knew Mike and Frank would be interested in.
According to ctpost.com, nothing in the store had been touched since it closed, and much of what was inside dated back to the 1800s. It was a pickers dream.
The local episode, which is called "A Picker's Dozen," will air Monday night at 9:00 PM on the History Channel. Catalano, who was the guy negotiating with pickers Mike and Frank, had this to say to ctpost.com about the shoot:
What you see on the show is what it is. By and large, they just run tape and it’s happening. It was a 16-hour day and they took a ton of film. I’m just dying to see how it got cut into a half-hour. They could have bought more, in my opinion, at one point, they accused me of being too agreeable. I said look around, I’m not keeping this stuff for another 100 years.
Catalano was not allowed to comment on just what the pickers bought from him until the episode airs, but he did say that the two pickers, Mike and Frank, "we're blown away by a lot of the stuff they found".
Again, you can catch the episode, which was filmed in Connecticut, this Monday night, February 4th, at 9 PM on the History Channel.
